Connectivism – call for papers

Dear Sirs, Madames, Collegues

we desire to inform you that we are working to realize a book collecting several articles related to European cooperation, both at local and transnational level.

As far as our precious cooperation (last events the FSE delegations), we invite you to produce a paper with a memo of this events, the aim and the general purpose about cooperation between municipalities in exhanging experience.

If you agree, please sent us a paper (English language, 2 to 7 pages, word format, times new roman 14 font, photo in jpeg format, resolution 600 dpi), within first half of October.

No financiary contribution is requested.

We are fully disposable for every deepening.

1. Call for papers to insert into the EUROPE DIRECT articles collection to publish within 2008 *name of the book> Europe of Thousands Cities, l,Europa delle Mille Citta’
 
Europe Direct Catania desire to realize a book with a presentation of EUROPE DIRECT at local level. 
 
The first section will be something about local (territorial) information and communication policies made by municipalities, the second section is related to the local governance through EUROPE DIRECT network in Europe.
 
If you agree, please send a presentation article of your center, with two or three photos (institutional, but also very coloured), so I can insert into the book.
 
2. Call for cooperation into the sharing project CONNECTIVE EUROPE.
 
As far as the argument exposed in the Budapest AGM, we desire to start the cooperation in communication strategy about mobility linked to cultural reason, in a way you can read more on connectivism website (http://connectivism.wordpress.com)
 
 ”Connective Europe” is an experience exchange instrumente that start from the logical construction of 1)”integrated paper about the theme of common shares values, using ethnodramatics and anthropological instruments relatedto soustanable organic farming (as formerly developed during Interreg Italia-Malta programme) and a modern conception of integrated relational tourism”.  In this way the project was purposed by the Catania Europe Direct Center and selected for a case-study about innovative policies to communicate Europe at the  Annual General Meeting di Budapest (16-19 Settembre 2008).
Third age travellers and youth tourist are both target for CONNECTIVE EUROPE.  The cultural fundation of its perspective is trans-national and trans-generational too.  New tourist demands for new products, where travelling is experience, adventure and exchange with residents, with a qualified way to build relation, which is done by the cultural common interest that are the foundation of each project.
Each project can be different, according to the nature of the partners and according to the theme choose to inquiring.  The methodology can be transfered and replied, consisting in an integrated relational experience as international meeting which goes to the realization of documentary audio/video about modern art, culture, archeological or/and natural sites or/and performing arts related to the main argument focused, where to partecipate is to be protagonist, according to the taste of contemporary people sho seek this kind of active tourism (experiencial tourism).
We think connectivism as a project conceived in a full open source approach.  Here we are talking about OPEN SOURCE not just in its technical implications, but in a more comprehensive meaning, which is also aesthethical, artistical and  philosophical.
CONNECTIVE CONCEPTION requires to recognize the effectiveness of the links:  so, nevertheless aware of the complex nature of the universe, the connective approach doesn’t give up the idea of the clear understanding of the connective address of the communication.  Looking for the causes a communication goes from A to B, so it is possible a better understanding and awareness of the common and shared values between individuals, and also among people, seeing the stars of common roots in European and Mediterranean cultures.  This is the aim of the CONNECTIVE EUROPE project, and to contribute to its diffusion and expansion is to contribute to give people chance to mobility through Europe and Mediterranean, chance to explore and compare, chance to get hospitality, chance to travel not as a tourist but as someone who is doing a real initiatic experience, knowing the world through the nature of his (her) own desires of knowledge, sharing with people linked by a relational network founded upon these European common roots.

You know, Connectivism is just a word.Every word have a lot of meanings. So, for instance, connectivism can be just the way to connect, or the interpretation of the values in connection, or, more deeply, inquiring the reason to connect, to find the changes that happen when we are connected.You can speak about a theory in learning, but you can talk also about an aesthetick cathegory.

VISTA, UBUNTU, Illuminismo tecnologico, connettivismo, OPEN SOURCE

La vicenda del programma operativo VISTA non è soltanto un fatto tecnico, ma un punto decisivo di snodo della nostra cultura contemporanea, il banco di prova effettivo per comprendere che non si può tornare indietro rispetto alle libertà conquistate.

In breve, per chi ancora non lo sa, VISTA è il nuovo sistema operativo di Windows, bello, elegante nell’aspetto ma… con un grave inconveniente per chi lo usa: perché VISTA, anche quando apri un semplice foglio di scrittura o un foglio di calcolo, fa apparire una schermata che, sostanzialmente dice: “inserisci il codice prodotto”. Allora tu vai a vedere dove, cosa, le istruzioni, e finalmente trovi il codice a venticinque cifre e lo registri. Così il sistema reagisce e risponde: “grazie per aver fatto la registrazione. Con questa hai diritto all’uso in prova per 60 giorni del programma operativo, dopo dovrai andare sul sito e pagare”. In più, dopo il 40° giorno, non puoi più nemmeno salvare le modifiche ai tuoi documenti.

Occorre subito precisare che Bill Gates con VISTA non c’entra. Dopo le vicende della sentenza antitrust che gli hanno tolto di fatto il controllo dell’azienda, Gates ha deciso di ritirarsi dalla conduzione attiva di WINDOWS, per dedicarsi alla fondazione che ha costituito con la moglie Belinda e con l’economista Jeffrey Sachs (per intenderci, quello che dice che non c’è più alcuna ragione tecnologica per la fame nel mondo che, dopo le conquiste tecniche degli ultimi trent’anni, dipende esclusivamente dalla distribuzione della ricchezza e del potere) per cercare di influire sullo sviluppo dei Paesi in stato di bisogno.

In questo modo, è stato risolto il monopolio filantropico di Gates in nome del libero mercato, con il risultato di vedere emergere gli avvoltoi che hanno dato luogo ad un sistema in cui è necessario pagare anche per ciò che credevamo di avere già.

È in gioco qualcosa di veramente importante, che non si risolve nel critica (o nel gradimento o mancato gradimento) di un sistema operativo. Si tratta di una sfida che concentra la libertà in una prospettiva non ideologica ma tecnologica.

Mitizzando la contestazione degli anni ’70 rischiamo di non accorgerci che oggi stiamo vivendo una nuova stagione di cambiamenti rivoluzionari e velocissimi, che hanno nella comunicazione internet-based uno strumento potentissimo per produrre emancipazione e libertà.

Paradossalmente, vale la pena di ringraziare VISTA, perché ci costringe ad accorgerci di questa libertà, proprio nel momento in cui vi apporta una minaccia. E quando sei messo in condizione di scacco, quando per ciò che hai già ti viene chiesto di pagare, allora cominci ad aguzzare l’ingegno. E magari, scopri che c’è OPEN OFFICE (www.openoffice.org) che ti dà tutto il pacchetto office gratuitamente, con facoltà di sostenere il progetto con una donazione, se vuoi. E ti accorgi che è compatibile con WINDOWS, e funziona anche meglio, perché è più leggero e non imballa il sistema.

Allora cominci a pensare che potresti passare interamente in OPEN SOURCE e fare a meno di VISTA e di Windows (e che, chissà, forse anche Bill…) e ti accorgi che non è così difficile scaricare un sistema operativo gratuito come UBUNTU www.ubuntu-it.org , bellissima parola africana che significa, appunto: io non appartengo a nessuno.

E così ti trovi nel pieno dell’illuminismo tecnologico contemporaneo, cioè del connettivismo.
